Your advice on man things has been such a help to me, I’ll give you some on getting older.

50 is not the “new 30”. 50 is when shit started falling apart for me, big time. All the dumb shit I did in my past caught up in a hurry, causing pain, and cancer. So you have that to look forward to.

You started a new gig, what? a week or two ago? Prior to that, you had a routine that was good on your body. At your age, it’ll take a month or more to get used to the new routine. It also sounds like you have sleep deficit. Your body needs a certain amount of REM sleep. If it doesn’t get it, or it changes, you’ll have to catch up. When I was working stupid hours, I found I’d be compelled to take a nap most of Sunday.

Alcohol most certainly screws up REM sleep, especially as you get older. When I get on a pattern of drinking caffeine and alcohol (This week it was a trip to Montreal) it takes a week to get back to normal. So no booze, get sleep, it’ll pass with time. More and more as you age. When I drink, I get no REM sleep, And I wake up when the alcohol burns off, usually around 3AM. Then I’m up for hours.

I won’t get into how your former life will manifest itself. But it will. My knees, hips, and feet are in pain every morning thanks to my more than I deserved motorcycle wrecks. Gr33nB3@n

The collateral damage from cancer therapy is brutal. I meant to message you and tell you your voice sounded much like mine pre-cancer after your vacation. You have no idea. Enough said.
    You’ll find out soon enough.

Just trying to tell you that recovery from anything will start taking longer as you age and if that first whisky of the evening burns, you may want to get your gullet checked further and let yourself heal. I didn’t and paid the price. Throat and prostate cancers are mostly asymptomatic male diseases. I didn’t realize I had it until it hit my lymph system. Looking back, the signs were there. I ignored them. BTW, the doc said it takes a decade or so to manifest. You may already be screwed.

So being mid fifties, I can pass along tribal knowledge, and screw with your head bigly at the same time.

        A double play!

Great podcast. You had the whole family (me, wife, 11 & 9 year old boys) in laughter. Your nickname in our family is “potty-mouth”
