I no longer believe in free speech.

I no longer support free speech. Free speech is both a deception and a cancer that has undermined Western Civilization since the French revolution. The progressive left heavily pushed the concept of free speech in the 1960s. They used it to effectively sabotage and destroy the venerable institutions that make up our nation states, and once their work was effectively done, once they had completed their march through the institutions, they tossed aside the idea of free speech as easily as if it were simply a straw in a bin.

No speech is free. The concept itself is ludicrous when you consider it. All speech has consequences. At the tender age of 10 I first grasped the idea that the adults in charge were full of shit when they kept repeating this line:

Sticks and stones may break my bones but names will never hurt me.

Yeah, nah. Names can really hurt you, as I discovered in the playground. Which is all part of growing up, but the inherent lunacy of ‘names can never hurt you’ didn’t sit easily with me. Names can hurt you for the following reason:

No speech is without consequences.

Walk up to a huge biker on the street and tell him that you slept with his mother and that she was a dead root and watch what happens to you.

Stand up in the middle of a performance and begin abusing the performers and calling them names and see how long you last in the building.

Tell a police officer in no uncertain terms what you think of him and see how you go.

Intentionally say something to hurt a loved one, a cherished member of your family, and eventually you’ll wish that you could dial back time and get to a place where those words never came out of your mouth.

Once you say it you can never unsay it.

Words have power, and thus words are loaded with responsibility. Our leaders used to understand that. You could not criticize our institutions for the sole objective of tearing them down. You could hardly criticize them with the objective of building them up. They were protected and thus they persevered.

The Church is no longer protected, and it is in an abject state of decline. It has not been protected from malicious speech for over 50 years. On the other hand no criticism of Islam is allowed. Free speech is not on the agenda when it comes to Islam, and thus Islam is on the ascendancy. One is protected, one is not.

Words count.

Our judiciary, our political process, our military, our universities and centers of learning, our press, our community associations, groups like the Boy Scouts, our families, and our patriarchal system, all of these and many others have been undermined for 200 years with words of destruction. Now they are mostly destroyed, a mere shadow of what they once were. The thought of not being able to criticize them now is appalling only because they are such bastions of ridicule. They have been reduced thus due to the constant attacks under the banner of free speech.

And now that the left have got what they want from free speech, the tired trope is on its way out. Of course they will not come right out and declare this to be true. The slumbering public is not ready for this yet. Instead they declare speech that they have decided is off limits to be something known as “hate speech”. This is speech which they hate, speech which they do not want to allow to have any foothold, and as such they shame people into not using it.

This process began over 25 years ago with the rise of what became to be known as political correctness. At the same time as the progs danced around and demanded that all manner of deviant speech be allowed under the banner of being free, so began the process of shaming people into silence through restricting their speech through the process of labeling it as not being politically correct.

And it worked. For some reason the majority of people wanted to be thought of as being politically astute, which was apparently easy to come by as long as you were politically correct. It offered the supposed credentialism of knowledge under the banner of conformity.

The left wants power and speech is power. The left have been in effective power since the late 1960s. They have been able to say whatever they want for whatever means they desired while progressively restricting the speech of their opponents. Now we have the situation where white men are shamed into silence for the sin of “mansplaining”. If you take this concept at face value, men who fall under this umbrella should not be allowed to say anything at all.

The color of your skin will in future determine what you are allowed to say in the brave new world of the progs. The evil that is Sarah Jeong is a very modern manifestation of this. Perhaps the NYT has moved too fast in sticking by this woman. Her visceral hatred of whites and her demands that they not be allowed to speak or participate only came about because of unfettered free speech. Listen to this snippet of a presentation that she gave at Harvard University:

Go back several decades and the bitch would have been thrown out on her ear. In fact, she never would have been able to set foot in the place to begin with. But free speech was used as the excuse to destabilize and throw down institutions such as these so that now a woman like this can freely speak her words of bile. The institution is destroyed. The Morlocks have emerged victorious. The place needs to be torn down and the ground salted.

Now she uses the institution that the left perverted with its cancer to call for more radical maneuvers in the ongoing war of culture, race and ideas. A Communist conspiracy to destroy the Western world.

We must seek to simultaneously restrict the speech of our enemies whilst protecting our remaining institutions from more damage. Our enemies must not just be shamed, they must be harangued and persecuted so that they may ultimately be destroyed. They were never interested in any debate or meeting of the minds. They pretended to be open to such cooperation while simultaneously doing everything they could to prevent our side from defending itself. As conservatives we were supposed to conserve. Gay marriage is just the cherry on the cake to show that we have conserved almost nothing. The left’s ideas now became our ideas simply because of the unrelenting attacks and pressure. Because of the unrelenting use of free speech.

I no longer believe in the concept of free speech because I have finally awoken from a 40 year spell. The idea was drummed into me from a young age so that I took it to be true like the sky is blue and the fields are green. But it is a lie, and it is a very obvious and stupid lie once you finally awaken to its untruthfulness. Another step in the red pill journey.

Free speech isn’t free; there are always consequences for words. Look around at our broken nations and realize the truth. Mind what you say. And pay attention to what our enemies are saying. This is a war. Make them pay for it.

Better late then never. I harmed my career for a period of time when I was first starting out by taking some people at their word when they asked me what I thought about some potential diversity hires. In a somewhat sarcastic manner I said that we absolutely needed some black physics, some female math, and some middle eastern chemistry.

This gets you on the “not a team player” list. This was an eye opener for me. Not only do they not want to hear you, that whole business of not making race or gender a factor, only merit, was complete and utter bullshit.

We’ll see how effective supposedly free speech is in the future. One thing I’ve noticed when SJW’S get attacked for their views is they always bitch like petulant children and cry about how democracy is being usurped. Even the elite do this, they did it with Brexit, Trump’s deal shenanigans and recently they’ve been doing it with the firing of James Gunn.

It’s transparent because they make the same mistakes every time. Surely by this stage very few people are buying it anymore? Yeah there are sycophants in this world, ( cough*Jordan Peterson’s fans cough*), but I would have thought that if you keep throwing the normies against a brick wall and keep wailing how it’s their fault they’d think WTF?

Excellent article. It’s true of course; while we all kinda knew it was, its revealing to hear it expressed cogently. There’s more to be developed here Adam; examples to be given.

But like you say: “The Church is no longer protected, and it is in an abject state of decline.”

One feels ashamed to quote from the Bible these days: Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain – Ex 20:7 God disagrees with you too. Names hurt.

Your article is book-worthy and political movement-worthy.

A question please and pray excuse my naivety – what does ‘SJW’ stand for.

I might also say Adam that, reluctantly, I have to agree with you.

Only if you assumed free speech was consequence free in the first place.

Bad people without principles have always tried to weaponize those principles as a club to hit good people with (weak managers, school teachers, family members, politicians, etc).

The left have added abominations like hate speech, political correctness & human rights to pretend that they have foundational principles that can replace the lexicon of free speech. Free speech was not an invention of the left no matter how much they pretended to fight for it.

The challenge for those who have principles is always how to live by them without being taken for a ride by those who pretend to believe in them. That has always meant you should be smart about when you speak up.

I’m interested in reading your follow up articles – you’ve obviously got a lot more to say on the topic. It just seems the declining state(or ratcheting up of consequences) of free speech is caused by the continual ceding of ground by pretend conservatives along with generations of mis-education, MSM propagandising & general bad faith from the left.

Is it possible that by ceding the principle and starting to argue against the term free speech that it might be just be what the left would want? Wouldn’t they just love it if non-leftists started arguing against free speech? Is it possible your original understanding/definition of free speech is what is at issue rather than the principle itself?

To argue against free speech then means it’s time to argue about who can say what and to whom and when i.e.- how much totalitarianism is good totalitarianism. I don’t think anybody can answer that question.

Perhaps I’m jumping the gun with my post so happy to read what you have to say in future articles.

    Adam,
I agree with what you say about the hate speech in universities, being dressed up as the high moral ground so that if any one dared question it, they were cried down as racist or non humanitarian or bigots. The newspapers in Western societies, going back 20years ago, also would not post any letters to the editor, that seriously challenged the idea that multiculturalism needed to be thought out a bit more seriously. I know I tried to write letters to them.

However, when I was given a second hand computer I found a tool with which I constantly challenged some of them online and told them they were wrong about the hippie, utopian ideas , they were teaching as reality. When in fact, territorial, tribal, warfare has raged across this planet non stop throughout history.
And that bringing big tribes in on the same territory had strong elements of danger given that all wars in history have been between two or more bloodlines, (tribes,
ethnic groups)or religious bloodline tribes over control of countries(land and resources).

Then there are the warlords (often armies of men who band together) to take countries or territories. The prize is the land which provides them with great territorial wealth, not to mention more women and reproduction opportunities. Our own Kings of England were such Warlords, and Isis is an example that the warlords still walk among us today. In the old days we called them conquerors.

All that I say above, is recorded in big historical encyclopaedias. But the left wing continued teaching an ideology, a non factual idea, that big tribes would forever live together peacefully if only they, the left were, in charge.
I can also tie the simple proven knowledge of biology into the constant warlike behaviour between bloodlines, but it would mean writing another couple of paragraphs.

The left ignored facts, believing instead their own ideas were true.
I think in fact the left and old hippie baby boomers blocked all free speech
in Universities and societal discussions, for the last 4 or 5 decades.
failing student papers if they didn’t follow the utopian, globalist world view. You were branded a bigot and ridiculed on ABC programmes and the BBC in England also on debate and talk shows and cried down by stacked leftist globalist audiences.

So while I agree wholeheartedly with your view that the left is responsible for the
mess in Western societies, because they thought they knew best, and they shut up any one that disagreed. I don’t think they were practising free speech though, I think they were doing the opposite shutting down free debate.
And they are still doing the same, trying to legislate gay pronouns.

But in a way I do think you have a point because those who had the power should have maybe stopped their freedom to speak and act against their own societies and people. But a lot of those were confused also, because they have only a sketchy knowledge of historical detail because it is glossed over at school by the same leftwing academics who teach only history that backs up their ideology and a lazy media who goes only for a good headline and doesn’t check historical counter facts,

I think it was only when the uneasiness of the ones who thought differently was justified by the terrorist attacks and the country shopping line of black Africans into Europe and the crime that comes with these groups that the people who were right all along have realised that they had to stand up and call, out the wrong thinking of the leftist ideology, but it is maybe too late.
Too many people making too much money out of mass immigration.
This is where the right wing aids and abets the out of control immigration, because it provides them with cheap labour and holds wages down and also they don’t have to spend money training their own people.

And the the left wing, which likes too import big ethnic voting bases by bringing in struggling immigrants, is guilty of selling out their own people, to hold on to power and their big salaries and pensions. The whole of California’s which is now almost a Mexican state, vote left. Labour and the greens pander to the big ethnic groups in Melbourne who always ensure labour or the Greens win Melbourne

Of course they were because the authorities allowed them to speak under pressure from leftie free speech advocates. The lefties only got around to shutting people up after they themselves had got what they wanted through advocating for free speech. Free speech gave them their foothold.

I concur. The shutting down of Alex Jones’s YouTube channel and the public harassment of Candace Owens are just the latest examples in what will no doubt be an ongoing trend. I’m hardly a disciple of his, but Leftist darling Saul Alinsky had a point when he said that you should make the opposition live up to their own standards.

Try criticizing the laughably absurd Holohoax and the Sacred Six Million and see how far you get. In many countries in the “enlightened West” you will go straight to prison!
